Within 24 hours Edward Enninful, 45, became one of the most talked about people in fashion and probably the most searched name in google on 10th April. Why? Well, if you don’t know and you call yourself a fashion lover then you are about to be schooled.

The announcement of Alexandra Shulman (former Editor of Vogue), stepping down came as sad news in the fashion industry after 25 years as Editor of British Vogue. Despite the fact we all had to say goodbye to one of the most amazing and respected women in fashion journalism, the media was going wild with talks of who will be her successor. An opportunity many young fashion journalists could only dream of, and after 25 years the throne was to be empty.

As you can imagine the big question has been, 'Who is going to fill the big and incredible shoes of Shulman at Vogue?'. Names such as Katie Grand, Dame Natalie Massnet and Emily Sheffield (Current Deputy Editor of Vogue), have been floating around in the industry as contenders to watch along with many others. However, that race has finally come to an end, with Edward Enniful named as Editor of British Vogue.
Ok enough with the buildup. Who is Edward Enninful you ask?

Born in Ghana and raised in London, Enninful started his modelling career at 16 when he was scouted on the London Underground by stylists Simon Foxton. Enninful's career in fashion took off becoming the youngest fashion director for an international publication when he was appointed at i-D Magzine. But that is not all, throughout out his career Enninful worked for many notable publications from Italian Vogue, American Vogue and W Magazine.
It should not be a surprise to anyone that Enninful has been chosen as the successor to Alexandra as he is hugely recognised in the industry for his talents. It was just last year October Enninful was awarded an OBE from the Queen for his contribution to fashion. Enninful has had a tremendous career, and it is only going to get better as he embarks on this new journey with Vogue.

For many people in fashion particular those of an ethnic background, this is a welcomed appointment. We believe Enninful will be a positive role model for young people of ethnic origin, showing that they too can become an editor of a renowned fashion magazine. A big congratulations from AAZURI, we can not wait to see what Edward Enninful will bring to Vogue during his time as Editor.
